Historical Society Receives Trading Post Account Books
Eleven ledgers from 1881 to 1903 turn up under the stairs
By Maggie Thorne
The Historical Society has received a gift of eleven account books from the Trading Post, covering the years 1881 through 1903, which turned up in a crate under the back stairs when the store's storeroom was cleared out.
The curator, Edith Crane, said the books record purchases of nails, lamp oil, molasses and boots by many of the Township's families. “People like to see what their great-grandparents owed,” she said. “And whether they paid.” The books will be available in the reading room once they are cleaned and boxed.

The bandstand
To the Editor: The bandstand on the Green could use paint. I am willing to help, and I suspect I am not the only one. Perhaps the Township Meeting could find the paint if we find the brushes.
